Mandate. - The PHILVOLCS is mandated to:
(a) Predict volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, and related geotectonic phenomena through reliable and accurate detection, forecast, and warning systems;
(b) Determine how volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, and related geotectonic phenomena occur, the possible hazards thereof, and the areas at risk; and
(c) Mitigate the impact of volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, and related geotectonic phenomena by providing appropriate volcano, earthquake, and tsunami information, education, products, and services for disaster preparedness.
